Gabbeh rugs are usually very simple in design, often incorporating small figures,animal shapes, and geometric patters.
The word "gabbeh" refers to the weave and while most of ours are produced by nomadic tribal peoples in southern Iran, many are made in India as well.

These 100% wool rugs come from Uzbekistan in Middle Eastern Asia. They have a very Southwestern design pattern.

Located in northern Afghanistan Maimana has produced kilim flat weave rugs for centuries. Most Unicas pieces in stock today are woven by refugees from Maimana currently living in Pakistan. We feature 2'6 by 3'6, 3' by 5' and large pieces 6' by 8' up to 8' by 12'. Price is generally at $12 per square foot. These rugs are quite durable and our current most popular offerings have been washed in a lime solution to antique their appearance, colours of brown, purple, red,black are often used all in strong and aged tones.
Sofreh is a generic term for eating rug. Some are flat weave while the Berjesteh Sofrehs are a finer mixed weave.
These rugs have an almost embroidered look and feel to them.

These hand spun, vegitally dyed rugs come from Turkmenistan. They are the originators of cut pile weaving. All rugs are 100% cut-pile wool.
Approximately from 1950's Hamadan made of cotton warp/weft wool cut pile. Anolin dyes, classic Persian.
Balouch: Nomadic, independant traders the Balouch control lands in eastern Iran, southern Afghanistan and western Pakistan. They are for the most part not under central government control. Their rugs are generally cut pile in smaller sizes and are often prayer rugs. Unicas features an extensive collection of their works all of which could be considered to be collector items. Sizes are generally 2'6 by 4' which sell at $295. They vary widely in design, colour and general theme as these people have numerous subgroups all weaving various versions of the balouch type of carpets.
Organized by "Cultural Survival", a wonderful group which has organized refugees from Tibet in strong weaving groups. All of their products are completely handspun and vegitally dyed, their designs come from the inspiration of the weavers, no outside designs are imposed. Weavers are well paid and the wholesale profits are returned to the refugee groups to be used for education, health care and organic farming projects.
Oaxaca state is home to the Zapotec indians. Their rugs are tightly woven on spanish looms and are available in many outlets around the world. Unicas features only the best quality rugs and tries to obtain sizes which are less common.
